Summer is Here!
Springtime is usually my favorite time of year! But having a child, I think summer might sneak into the #1 spot. There is just so many fun things to do and they all involve being outside!! Baby boy and I almost swim daily now and truly enjoy the water!
Here is updates on the baby:
Age:
Baby boy is 10 months now and is looking less and less like a baby and more and more like a little man.
Activity:
He is free standing (without holding on to anything) and maintaining his balance. He giggles when I help him walk forward and takes off using his own walker. So I feel I should have the video camera primed and ready for him to take his first steps anyday now!
Talking:
I don't think I have posted about his talking. He first said Mama on Mothers Day! Wonderful gift! He says it constant and I love it! He also says Dada. And he loves to babble. It seems everytime I get on the phone, he becomes a chatterbox. And at mealtimes with other people too, if he is not involved in the conversation he will just get louder and louder.
Diet:
Baby still nurses and also eats 3 meals a day. He is a good eater and enjoys all food groups. He is quite picky about his fruits, I am assuming it because of the textures. I have tried to trick him and stick in a banana but he just spits it out. I eat a banana every morning and my son HATES them. Go figure. He likes deli meat, LOVES watermelon, starting to enjoy cottage cheese. And loves to play with any water that spills on his tray. Meal times have become quite messy.
Speaking of water, he loves to explore the dog's water dish EVERYDAY. I seriously don't know how to keep a bowl out for the dog and prevent him from splashing it all out. He has a water table outside to enjoy and gets in almost daily in the big pool too. So he should have plenty of time with water:)
Personality:
Baby boy is very sweet, funny and good-natured. We have heard several times, what a patient boy he is. He truly goes with the flow and not much gets to him. He is happy and truly loves his puppy. He loves to explore, opening and closing doors all over the house. He really has become vertical lately, where he even is cruising along walls. And he absolutely LOVES to be NAKED. Anytime the diaper is off, he is up and going with his naked booty. Too funny!!! He also loves books. He enjoys when I make funny animal noises and I hope he loves animals as much as I did as a kid. His daddy can always get a giggle out him playing tick tock, dancing or just goofing around. And daddy is the master at putting this boy to sleep.
Sleep:
As far as I am concerned, we have conquered the SLEEP battle. We started sleep training over a month ago. He still cries when I put him in his crib to go to sleep but it is much more managable. He still wakes up 1-2 times a night, but this is much more managable. I actually feel rested but I still take naps somedays when the baby naps. (Especially if I have to go into work). He is such a cuddler, I know he would love to sleep with us always. And we don't have rigid rules about it all, we just try to enjoy our son while he is still so small and cuddly:)
Baby boy, we love your sweet smile, killer blue eyes and warm loving personality.

Take 3!!
So I have attempted to blog twice before. But it has never stuck with me. And then I read my friends blogs and feel the urge to try again. Simply so that I have the memories of our son. He seems to grow so fast and these moments are so precious. Don't get me wrong, there are other topics to blog about: marriage, girlfriends, family, travel. But first of all, I would like to share about motherhood and my preicous baby boy!
So here is trying (for the 3rd time) to blog about living Life as a Lipp:)

Sleep Training
I hate sleep training.
The biggest challenge so far in raising our incredible, sweet, handsome baby boy has been sleep. Getting him sleep, keeping him to sleep, and all of it in between.
I can remember (thanks to facebook) asking when he was 5 weeks old, what routines work for establishing a sleep routine. Most supportive friends would tell us to do what works best for our family, there is no one right way.
Well, it sure feels like we must have done something wrong. Because our baby boy does NOT sleep through the night. And NEVER* has. (*we have had maybe 5 nights of 7 hours straight sleep MAX*) That is right we have been up all through the night now for NINE months. Whew......I wish I was one of those people that liked 5-6 hours of sleep. Oh no.....I like 9-10 and some days 12 hours of sleep.
Around 4 months, we were told to let him start falling asleep in the crib by himself. That did NOT work at all. I don't think I was ready to hear him cry. We tried at 5, 6 & 7 months but failed each time. I just embraced that I was going to rock my baby to sleep for all naps and bedtime. Seemed like a plan I could handle.
Until I hit a breaking point a few weeks ago. I was so sleep deprived and clueless that I hired a sleep consultant to formulate a plan for our family. Getting her email, I cried. Not surprising for me, but it was just a relief to have support & a plan. It is not an easy plan but I know I have TO DO IT to help my son learn to put himself to sleep.
We are in week 4 and at times I feel great and other times I want to give up. Especially because we got off routine last week when we returned to Overland Park for my grandfathers funeral. I think we both were exhausted from the emotional and physical challenge of being there. And now we are trying to get back on course.
The good days are when he goes to sleep within 20 minutes of crying, the bad days are 2 hours of crying. And each and every time we put him in his crib, he cries without FAIL. I know other moms have told me that the first night was 30 minutes of crying, 2nd 15 minutes, 3rd 5 minutes and then no crying. I am just hoping that in another 4 weeks, we have hit no crying. I will keep you posted.
On the positive side, baby boy said MAMA yesterday for mothers day. BEST GIFT EVER!!!
(although it does stink to put him in the crib and walk away with him hysterically crying and now he can say mama)
Well, here is to some day sleeping through the night:) Trust me, it will be a full blown celebration in our house when it occurs 2 nights in a row:)

Put it on my To-Do list.....
So blogging was supposed to help me make memories right??!!
Except time is flying by and I am busy living the memories to make. It truly is amazing how much faster time seems to go once you have children.
Baby Boy Lipp is such an active little man now. He is pushing himself up to sitting, pulling himself up to standing and doing downward dogs (or that is what it looks like) everyday. Chris and I are in panic mode because before we know it, he will be walking!!
I can not get over how sweet and happy our baby is. He just melts my heart is so many ways. And I can't imagine what it will be like once he says mama or comes running to hug me.
The other night Chris told me he had his dream come true. The screen door was open and BBL saw him coming up the stairs. And started crawling towards him. He told me how he always dreamed of his children coming to greet him when he gets home from work:)
He has quickly moved on to finger foods. I love mealtimes with him. He smile is changing daily too as his 4 upper teeth come in more and more each day.
Pics to follow soon....
